Types

Types of Dances –

  1. Indian Dances: India has many classical dance forms, each with its own unique style and origins. These dances are deeply rooted in Indian culture, mythology, and religious traditions. In Indian Classical Dance, there are total 8 types/forms for instance kathak, bharatnatyam, odissi, etc.
    A. Kathak
    A dance from northern India that is characterized by footwork and pirouettes. It is often performed by both male and female dancers together. Kathak is often referred to as the dance of love and uses ankle bells, or gunghroos, as an important part of the performance. 

    B. Bharatnatyam
    A popular dance from Tamil Nadu that originated in temples and is now performed in theaters. It features a repertoire of songs in Sanskrit, Tamil, and Telugu, and is often accompanied by Carnatic music. Bharatanatyam is traditionally performed by women and expresses Hindu religious themes
    C.Odissi
    Odissi is an Indian dance genre that originated in the province of Odisha in eastern India. The ancient dance has its origins in Odisha’s Hindu temples. It is the fifth in the 8 classical dance forms of India. The majority of the gestures but also movements (Mudras) are influenced by sculptors and idols from India’s ancient temples.

2. Hip Hop – Hip Hop is an edgy, raw and intense urban dance style also known as Street Dance. The origin of popping, locking and crumping, Hip Hop is mostly danced to rap, urban and not surprisingly, hip hop music.

3. Ballet – Ballet dance developed during the Italian Renaissance, before evolving in France and Russia into a concert dance meant for public performance. This is in the form of a ballet, in which the dance is choreographed with classical music.
